“There are worse crimes than burning books. One of them is not reading them.” –Ray Bradbury
Generally speaking, I love it when someone asks me about my blog. Because, generally speaking, that means that that person is actually interested in my blog…what I’m writing about, what inspires me, why I chose to express my funny side instead of my serious side, what the hell I was thinking during a particular post, if I am really as weird as my blogs suggest, etc. And truth be told, it feels really good when people are interested in what I think and what I’ve created. Evidently, I am a total narcissist.
Most of these questions come from fellow bloggers and a few miscellaneous “others.” People who understand the need to write, even if it’s just a few words. Who understand that life is full of stories that need to be told. My weirdo kindred who understand that sometimes you just have to say the things you’re not supposed to. I am grateful for these people.
There are others, too, of course, who ask about my blog. Wonderful friends and family who follow, read, “like” and occasionally comment on my posts, even when it’s not my best work. These people are the ones who will continue to read my blog, even if it really, really starts to suck. I am grateful for and love these people.
However, there is a third category of people who ask me about my blog that I am not so enamored with. They are the people who are quick to “like” a cat meme on Facebook, but seemingly incapable of actually reading two consecutive paragraphs. Because, you know…words and stuff. These people ask questions like:
1. Are you still writing your blog? (Um…yes.)
2. Why are you writing a blog? (Um…I explained that in my blog.)
3. What is your blog about? (Um…well, if you read it….)
4. Am I in your blog? (Um…well, you weren’t, but now you will be.)
5. You’re writing a blog? (Um…bite me.)
These are the people who put an exclamation point to the notion that they have no interest, whatsoever, in the fact that multisyllabic words are sometimes put together to express an actual complete thought. I am not so grateful for those people. To borrow a phrase from one awesome blogger who makes me laugh, Never Trust a Jellyfish, I damn those people to a pizza-less hell! © Racheal Lee Bradford
To me, blogging is a way of expressing the things that make me laugh and smile; to share my love of writing and collaborating with others. People ask me to why I blog. Simple. It’s my voice on the web.

Yes. For a writer, the words need to come out. No other reason really matters. Good for you! 🙂

I don’t identify myself as a writer. But the “need to write, even if it’s only a few words” rings true. The audience that I love least is the ones that make every post about them. Those are awesome.

You are not giving yourself enough credit…you are most definitely a writer. 🙂

Maybe if you dressed in costume and sang your post to the melody of a Taylor Swift song your message would get out!!
If it means anything I like to read your words 😉
Happy Thanksgiving! !!

Haha!! That’s it! Or maybe if I dress a like a cat and sit at a typewriter.
Thank you for reading and your kind words. That most definitely does mean something to me.
Happy Thanksgiving! 🙂

Oh and “you know… words and stuff” made me laugh out loud. It’s like I’m with an old friend.
I read that sentence to my husband and he said, “hey… she talks like us! “

I do like the way you talk. Fortunately you don’t talk like me. I don’t think the web could handle two of us.

Love this one especially! So true. Post a thought provoking article and most scroll right by. The people who are less than enthusiastic or ask silly questions are jealous!!!!
